MSAPPS folder not removed upgrading from 4.x due to design.
Cause:
The Office 7.0 Setup program cannot tell which shared applications from a previous version of Office are safe to remove. Office 95 installs shared applications to PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\MICROSOFT SHARED folder.
Solution:
Delete the MSAPPS folder from the hard drive using the 'Find' utility.
1) Use the Windows Find utility to locate the MSAPPS folder:
a) Click 'Start' todisplay the Windows 'Start' menu.

b) Select 'Find' and select 'Files or Folders'.
c) Type MSAPPS in the 'Named' box.
d) Select 'Include all subfolders'.
e) Click 'Find Now'.
2) Delete the file:
a) Select MSAPPS from the find results window.
b) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Delete'.
